Hello Kids ! In today’s article, we are going to know about Chapter 3! The chapter will be on synthetic fibers and plastics. First of all you wear different types of clothes! Have you ever wondered how this cloth is divided? Whenever you look carefully, you will know. Synthetic Fibers and Plastics
How is cloth made? It is made up of different types of thin fibers.
The source of fiber can be any. Do you know from where the fiber can be obtained? Let’s try to know this.
Types of Fibers:
Fibers are of two types on the basis of source –
- natural fibers
- synthetic fibers
Synthetic Fibers :
Synthetic fiber is made up of different small units. This small unit is a polymer.
The word polymer is called polymer in the English language! Which is made up of the Greek words “Poly” and “Mur”.
Polymers are made by joining together many units.
Types of Synthetic Fibers:
There are different types. Which is as follows –
- rayon
- nylon
- polyester and acrylic
Rayon :
Also called artificial silk. Looks like silk, but is not silk.
It is used to make carpets and rugs together with cotton.
Nylon :
The first fully synthetic fiber. It is useful in making ropes, tents, parachutes.
The seat belt of the car is also made from it.
Fibers are also made of this to climb the rocks.
Polyester and Acrylic :
Clothes made from this do not get wrinkled easily. Easy to wash.
PET – Poly Ethylene Terphthalate
Properties of artificial fibers:
- Dries quickly.
- Are cheap.
- Maintenance is easy.
- Lasts for a long time.
Plastic :
Plastic is also a polymer like synthetic fibers. Synthetic Fibers and Plastics
This is also of two types –
thermoplastic
thermosetting plastic
